We had our meeting this morning with the Chief of Medical Staff, - TopicsExpress

We had our meeting this morning with the Chief of Medical Staff, EFMP Coordinator, Case Manager, Waynes First Sergeant and then Wayne and I. Here is the basic overview of how that meeting went... EFMP isnt going to be an option for us at all. They feel that he doesnt have copper intoxication and even if that is the diagnosis, it is something that we can treat by avoiding water. They said there is an association between the water and him being sick but there is no way to prove that in their eyes. The blood tests dont matter because they said any one can have high copper from the water here as it is such hard water. So because we have a way of preventing him from being sick - avoiding all tap water - then there is no reason for us to be reassigned. They related it to being lactose intolerant or allergic to peanuts - you simply avoid those items and you are fine. In their opinion, this is no different. Basically, even though we have a diagnosis, it isnt one they will accept. There is a lot more to the whole conversation, but in the eyes of EFMP, he doesnt have a medical reason to approve a reassignment. We then met with Waynes First Sergeant and discussed what else we can do. We are going to apply for Humanitarian/Compassionate Reassignment - which I had no idea this was different from the EFMP reassignment. It is a long shot to be approved for that based on the situation, but it doesnt hurt to try. We are going to explain the medical condition and that he needs to avoid all water, which is pretty impossible to do. Our other option we are going to submit for is a DEROS curtailment. This is where they will move up our date of return to the States. We currently have 2 years left in our time here. Its doubtful we could get the full 2 years cut off our tour, but hopefully we can get 18 months or at least a year taken off. This is probably going to be our best option to solve this situation. Like I said, this is just a short summary of the days events and while I understand the way EFMP works and the process, I dont agree with it. Im feeling pretty beat down at this point and just hoping one of these two options will work for us. Please continue keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. With Love, Kristi, Wayne, and Jake
