We have a story to tell. It begins in 1959, when Dr. Ted Donat incorporated the North Central Educational Television Association. He and some like-minded visionaries recognized the power of television, and they wanted airwaves set aside for television that mattered. With tons of support from the community, an antenna, a videotape recorder and a general manager, Mr. Clair Tettemer, on January 19, 1964—fifty years ago today—KFME sent the first public television signal across these prairies. Yes, today marks fifty years of public broadcasting in our region. This is your triumph and your celebration. We cannot thank you enough for welcoming us into your homes every day and for your unwavering support. That’s just the beginning of the story, of course. Stayed tuned for more bits of history and merriment throughout the year. This is cause for a whole year of celebration, don’t you agree?
