We have an organized group FIGHTING the Island Park Caldera National Monument movement and Im happy to see this group gaining momentum. Because a few individuals from Culver City, California have made such a hit with the people of Fremont County by showing outstanding photos and historical comments about our county, there are people starting to believe that we should turn Island Park into National Monument and the control of our area over to the government! Does that sound crazy? Since 1962 I have been involved in some way with the outdoor segment of Island Park. Yes, part of this time was spent working for the government buggin, but 33 years have been spent operating a family business horseback riding operation. Maybe, if the government takes control over Island Park, I wont be kicked out. Maybe, if the government takes control over Island Park, I wont be restricted to a few trails. With these maybes in mind, what if the government and Culver City, California start dictating my, and every other locals every move? Is it worth the chance? Our local government has a lot of control; think what it will be like if the Federal Government takes over!
