We have been following this post on various forums including Indian-Orthopaedic Research-Group. At most of the forums, it was concluded that concerned Orthopaedic surgeon at Medanta - The Medicity gave most appropriate advice to the patient and definitely none of the surgeons at any forum said that it was a wrong advice. However, patient opted conservative treatment after consulting two more surgeons. It is very unfortunate that in spite of giving best orthopaedic advice (based upon modern orthopaedic principles), the patients husband wrote very misinforming and derogatory remarks about the institution and surgeon over the facebook. In medical science which is quite non-exacting, many at times at advice given by two surgeons/physician may differ completely and still both of them may be right in their perspective. It is the right of the patient to go to different consultant and take multiple opinion and patient can choose or reject whatever he feels. But maligning a surgeon & or institution without verifying the facts is very disturbing in this case. In my personal opinion, it is not only unethical but completely illegal too as it damages the reputation of the person and institution which is build over decades of hard work and honesty. In this hour of difficulty, I would stand by my colleague and institution concerned.
