We have got to hope that this goes thru...why? I know this is pretty stupid (my true feelings can only be described with inappropriate words) but Natives did not become citizens of the US until 1924. But not all Nations People were allowed to vote. If this goes thru then our votes can count and we have earned this. Some of Nations First People feel that through voting we are conforming. In my opinion this is not true. I want to be heard. I want my opinion and my voice to matter. I have earned this right, my people have earned this. Many Natives have left the rez and hold jobs with the government at local, state and higher levels. They give us an opportunity to be heard. They can represent us in a way that we cannot represent ourselves. Their voice can speak on behalf of Peoples First Nations on issues that not only matter but that effect our people. Without this we remain as we have for such a long time.....silent. I do not like our government. They are our biggest enemy and our History defines the reasons why. We are in NO way conforming but what we are doing is taking that which is available to us and using the very enemy that tried and still tries to surpress our People and using it our advantage. They are my enemy as much as they are yours (speaking to my people). The government acts as though we do not exhist. We are a dark bruise in their history that they would rather just forget about. Well we are not. We are here. We do exhist. We can and will be heard and we do matter. This is one of the strongest ways that we can make this happen! ~NC~
