We have spoken of fear before but good advice is worth repeating. A wise woman once told us that fear is, False Evidence Appearing Real. It’s easier said than done to not be afraid of something or someone, especially the unknown. With this in mind we recognize the birthday of a writer from long ago. It’s the birthday of the Gothic horror author H.P. [Howard Philips] Lovecraft , born in Providence, Rhode Island (1890). As a young man, he became a recluse, sleeping during the day and reading and writing at night. And for a long time, Lovecraft had little contact with the outside world; until it occurred to him that he could support himself as a writer. At the time, most horror stories were about ghosts and vampires, but Lovecraft wrote about his fear of modern science. Lovecraft said, "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown." In summary: Memorize this statement and say it to yourself next time you feel afraid. Fear = False Evidence Appearing Real
