We havent long shifted homes here in Sydney but Im starting to find lots unscanned material from my first visit to Saigon in Feb 1964 as a university student spending a year up in Hong Kong & travelling down (steerage, of course) on the SS Cambodge of Messageries Maritimes. The Diem Coup had taken place only months before and its leader Big Minh ousted in the first of many more silly coups just the week before. Connoisseurs should recognise most of these locations but want to point specifically to the heavily-damaged Palace Guard Barracks, later part of Saigon University. Street traffic was quite light and dominated by little blue & yellow Renault taxis, plus other French-made vehicles. Both Nguyen Hue and Le Loi Blvds were dominated by a string of mid-lane kiosques where this roll was processed. (I was also mastering the light so some overexposed.) A wonderful time avant la guerre. While there I heard that the US aid mission, or USOM, was looking for help and returned several months later as a pacification officer in the Mekong Delta. Enjoy.
