We left the camp at 9.00 am to head for Rugen Island. Coming into Griefswald there was an old Monastery – Zur Geschichte des Klosters Eldena, built in 1199 – Rebecca took some beautiful photos. We crossed the bridge to Rugen Island and Rebecca suggested we take the Scenic Route to the South. The road was about two small cars wide and was lined with trees on either side. Fine for the passenger, but not great for the driver, as there were many people travelling – like traffic in Queen St. on a Friday night. We travelled to Portbus and stopped for coffee. There was a lovely square of mainly grass with a memorial 1870-74. Then travelled North to a famous Nature Reserve. It was too big and too cold to go for a long walk, so left and on the instructions of the gps we turned onto a little road back over the hill South. It was one lane cobbles and worse than any farm track. After 6 kms. we turned onto a cobble super highway, two lanes wide and after a few kms. We then turned onto a cobble motorway – all East German style, but an experience. Back down the highways to the camp, a five hour expedition. Both very tired and grumpy, particularly Peter. Poland tomorrow.
