We lose 1500 World War II veterans a day. I hope my peers realize the sacrifices and struggles our Grandparents generation (Born circa 1920) made for this country. The Great Depression shaped their childhood, but when our country was deliberately attacked, they rose to the challenge and took on the tremendous burden of restoring peace and freedom against enemies that would destroy us in an instant if they had the opportunity. The whole country was outraged, men enlisted and went off to fight, and the women back home filled in at the factories, making the essential tools of combat..... My point of all this being, we lose 1500 a day.... If a member of your family or someone you know was alive back then, question them. Find out what they were thinking of. Find out what kind of extraordinary things they did for God and Country. Some, whove been through hell on the battlefield, will have a hard time. But thats the point. A lot of these old soldiers never had the chance to talk about the horrific things that theyve seen and/or done. You might be surprised what youll learn..... Oh yeah, they also witnessed the first man made satellite, the assassination of a beloved President, putting a man on the moon, the Vietnam War, the resignation of a sitting president, Nuclear weapon proliferation, the fall of communism, and even the Internet and 9/11. So Im sure you can find something to discuss. Learn your roots, skip your parents lessons. Before theyre all gone. Ok Im done.
