We love this idea... The Stone Ritual This ritual reminds us of the continued presence of our loved one in our lives. It gives us something tangible to hang onto, until and only if we are ready to let go to the tangible (stone) and keep our memories. You will need a container and enough stones for each person attending. These may be actual stones collected from someplace special to the person who died, or river stones or colored stones that you can pick up at the Dollar Store. Please adapt this ritual to fit your needs. “George Matthew Adams said “there is no such thing as a self-made person. We are made up of thousands of others. Everyone who has ever done a kind deed for us, or spoken one word of encouragement to us, has entered into the make-up of our character and of our thoughts, as well as our successes.” I have a small bucket of river stones/colored stones… I am going to come around the room and have you pick a stone for yourself out of the bucket. You can also just mention the stones and have them for people to pick up and take with them at the end of the service/celebration of life. The stone is a symbol of ________’s presence in your life. Keep the stone if you need to, for a short or long while, put it in a coat or jean pocket…or take it as you wander, or bring it to a your favorite spot and when you are ready, leave it there…. And in that way the free spirit, the wanderer in __________ will go on, who knows. Some one like _________ may come upon the stone in the future and find joy in it.
