We put so much emphasis on the way others differ from us... Whether it be gender, color, race, religion, high school, hair color, nationality, sports team, part of town, what coast we live on, what politics we believe in, what style we dress in, our very personality and EVERYTHING in between. We use these to separate ourselves into US and THEM. It seems to be Human Nature...isnt that ironic? What if instead, we focused on what every human being has in common? Regardless of all the things that make us different we ALL have hopes, fears, desires, insecurities, goals, doubts, passions, dreams, good days and bad. We all experience pain, laughter, loss, heartbreak, love, desire, anger, and this very human existence. Just think about that for a moment. These are the things you have in common with your worst enemies, the people you hate, the people you think are the complete opposite of you... You share 99.9% of your DNA with them and thats just the beginning. Did you ever realize how much you had in common? Why cant we seem to focus on that? Why is it human nature to disregard what makes us human? Our cells dont care about the differences between blood and bone. They dont hate and dehumanize one another for what makes them special and unique. Our cells dont see themselves as separate. They unconditionally accept one another and unify, working together in harmony, despite their differences, to create the beauty which is life. Maybe that is the key that we are missing: There is no such thing as us and them, there is only WE.
