We recently installed a Home Ventilation System in a house at Westbury, which was less than 5 years old. The fan/heat lamp assembly in the bathroom, which was installed at the time the house was built was the correct style, however the installer only did half the job. The fan was just venting moisture directly into the roof space. The tendency these days is to make the roof space cavity air tight, however this is creating an issue with roof space condensation. Having fans (bathroom, toilet, kitchen) venting moisture into the roof space is just contributing to the problem. On this occasion it was an easy fix for us to add some Tasflex ducting and vent the fan to outside. We regularly come across this situation when installing Ventilation Systems. Generally, we do not recommend ducting older style fans which vent directly into roof spaces. We offer a supply and replacement service where we will ensure that the exhaust from fans is vented to outside, thus eliminating this potential problem. TIP from Professor Viento:- Turn your exhaust fan on when using the Bathroom for 10-15 minutes afterwards. This will help purge any moisture which may still be present! Likewise when cooking in the Kitchen. This will also help eliminate odours. All fans should be vented to outside. Give us a call if your older style fans need replacing!
