We saw many posts concerning poor Zeus story. Some contain some of the truth, and some contain only false statements and accusations to either ESMA or SNARR! This is the full story about Zeus: 1- Last Wednesday, January 7th, Mona Khalil received a call from an unknown number, as her phone is in repair and is using an old phone, from a lady saying that they have an injured dog, and wanted ESMA to send someone to take him to the shelter as they are near ESMA. Mona asked them to bring the dog over as there was no car to pick him up at the moment. They said then that they didnt know what caused his injury. They asked if our vet was at shelter, Mina said no but vet assistant can handle the dog. 2- Our vet assistant received the dog who came with Mr. Hazem and Jill. The dog had a horrible wound in his back that was highly infected with many pockets filled with puss. The wound smelled so bad, that Mohamed, our assistant vet, thought it was gangrene. 3- Once Mohamed started cleaning the wounds many parts of the skin fell off as it was all dead skin, so he had to remove the rest of the dead skin to be able to clean the wounds properly. Zeus took his antibiotics, pain killers and put a special bandage to cover the wound and keep it clean. When asking for information to register the dog, as ESMA always does for the new cases, Mr. Hazem just left his personal phone number and said that they are right near ESMA. He left 100 pounds and told Mohamed that this was a donation. They didnt register that the dog belonged to EEA and just said that this was a dog that used to come to eat at the stables. 4- Mohamed called Mona after Mr. Hazem left to tell her all the story and she asked him if they took any photos of the case, he said that Mr. Hazem took many and he has already asked him to send them to Mona. That was on Wednesday, but the photos were not sent. He tried to call Mr. Hazem on Thursday twice, but there was no answer. Mona went to the shelter on Friday and saw Zeus, she took many photos that have been posted on the group. 5- Bahra sent Robin, from SNARR group the photos of Zeus showing her his injury, then Robin offered to help Zeus, as they generously did many times before for other cases. Of course it was a good opportunity for Zeus as we all know that the adoption of a healthy Baladi dog is very hard in Egypt, let alone a horribly injured one, and of course there were no promises from EEA to take the dog till that moment as far as Monas knowledge. Therefore, SNARR made their own post stating that they will take Zeus and asked people for help in the expenses. 6- On Saturday, January 10th, Mona found a missed call from Jill, she called her back and Jill told Mona that many people informed her that there are groups using Zeus photos and asking for donations to the case and asked why will the dog fly to USA since they are taking him when he is ready and did not mention the part where he is fully sponsored, which was totally news for Mona to hear and Mona told her so. We were surprised to see the public post EEA published on their page saying that there is a group using Zeus photos to scam people for money and that Zeus only belongs to EEA and that he had a pledge for his treatment expenses and that they will take him back after treatment. Many people commented therefore guessing and even some asked if it was ESMA. We communicated with them and we made it clear that no one informed us that they will take the dog back after treatment. 7- In the afternoon of January 10th, they sent 500 pounds with Mr. Hazem and Miss Rihannon and they gave it to one of the workers. They asked about the medications and medical supplies needed for Zeus, and Mohamed told them that Mona already brought everything and if they want to buy other things, they should call Mona and ask whats still missing, which they did not. Mona was only informed today morning about this and of course after all the false accusations of lying and that there was a pledge for the expenses, which did not happen till that post, also the accusations from their supporters that ESMA only defends SNARR because they donate to them, Mona could not simply accept this money. The money was returned today to EEA and it was received by Mr. Hazem. 8- 9- EEA, among all the accusations, sent to Mona that they already posted on January 9th to ESMA page that they will adopt the dog and that was after ESMA had posted the case and got SNARR offering to help him and that the ost was removed. We finally found the post which says: Many many thanks ESMA for taking in this poor little dog we found. I posted his story on my page Egypt Equine Aid I hope people will help ESMA to help him by donating. Your groom did an excellent job. We named him Zeus and we will be happy to let him live at EEA if he manages to pull through. They did not mention any pledge for his expenses, nor did they state that they will adopt him, they will only let him live at EEA if he manages to pull through! Our conclusion: 1- First aid doesnt need experienced vets in dogs, any vet will know how to clean a wound, and they have an in-house vet, and as a rescue group, they should do as soon as they find him. 2- If they were expecting rabies, as they mentioned 2 days later to Mona on the phone, why send a dog suspected with rabies to a shelter which contains more than 500 dogs, of which are seniors, non-vaccinated puppies and other sick dogs! Why expose that number of dogs to a danger which they did not mention in the phone call with Mona, they only told Mohamed after they brought the dog that they suspected that a pack of wild dogs bit him. The dog was already inside ESMA and the danger could not be contained if he was indeed rabied. 3- EEA did not register the case under its name, nor did they say that they will sponsor his full treatment, they left 100 pounds as donation as per Mr. Hazem. He did not want to write the registration form and only agreed to leave his personal mobile number. 4- Not one of them asked about Zeus, from Wednesday to Saturday to see how he has been, or is he even still alive. 5- The post that they made on ESMA page, where they offer to let the dog live in EEA was among hundreds of posts from people each day, they did not send a private message, or call Mona, like they did when they asked ESMA to take the dog, instead of making a post with an album called The truth! Taking into consideration that ESMA has a number of 4 pages on facebook! 6- The kind of injury that Zeus has, is not treatable here, he needs much more advanced techniques which can be only found abroad. 7- If we compare between letting the dog live in EEA and having a home, with a family, waiting for him, then of course we will choose the latter. 8- People assuming that this was dogs bites, are totally mistaken, we know very well from our experience that if a dog was being attacked by a dog or a pack of dogs, he would have several injuries in different parts of his body, especially the neck and face and not injuries only in the middle of his back, and still this doesnt mean that we are saying that it was acid, but we are sure it was not a dog bite, and till now we dont know what really caused this dog injury. 9- After all that was mentioned, and regarding the welfare and the best options for Zeus medical treatment abroad which are not available in Egypt, and his chance to live in a home with a family, OUR DECISION IS THAT ZEUS WILL GO TO SNARR IN DUE TIME. We appreciate the concern and support of everyone who cared about Zeus and we want to ensure everybody again that ESMA will only choose whats best for the dog.
