We take this day to salute our countrys soldiers, past and present. We thank them with our thoughts, our prayers and our actions. It always humbles us at WOM when we see acts of kindness and gratitude in our little bistro. There are military men and women that come to WOM, sometimes in large groups. Whether we are serving 2 or 20, our amazing customers frequently ask for the opportunity to add the young men and womens tab to mine, please. One woman who always wishes to remain anonymous, has on a handful of occasions, asked to pay the bill for the group of soldiers enjoying breakfast over there. So we bring her the bill--its usually nine or ten soldiers and she gladly pays their bill, a tribute to her late husband who was a soldier. As she leaves the bistro she walks anonymously past their table, eyes filled with tears. Perhaps tears of joy for being able to be so kind, but almost certainly tears of loneliness for the love of her life, who gave his life for this country. We hear a lot on this holiday to honor the soldiers, past and present. Say a prayer, Fly the American flag. Maybe too, we should say a prayer for all the loved ones each soldier has left behind. For the sacrifices our Armed Forces make-- Freedom and Liberty abounds. For the loved ones of those soldiers, may God hold them close on this Memorial Day and always. Hows this for a change of pace- For Breakfast- Its Memorial Day. On this day, and Veterans Day, we serve a dish that many a soldier has eaten. Whether they loved or hated it, or learned to love it, or learned to hate it, they all ate it. Chipped Beef on Toast is the official name of this dish, but give a bunch of young bucks charged with defending their country a plate of it every morning for way too long and theyll call it whatever they want. And so the fabulous names, SOS or S*#t on a Shingle were born. SOS- We kinda bistrod the dish a bit. We slipped in some slow roasted Chuck Round for the Chipped Beef in the gravy (We cant figure out how to chip a beef) and I dont think a toaster can keep up in our Early Bird first hour, so you get a fresh baked buttermilk biscuit. Served with two eggs cooked your way and your choice of our super-bacon or fresh fruit. $9.95, but get here right after you raise the flag and your special price before 8AM is $5.95 At Ease.
