We took a quick tour of the opening-on-Friday Nordstroms Dining Hall at the Rideau Centre yesterday. If youve been to Torontos Eaton Centers Urban Eatery food court, the Dining Hall will look very familiar. The 850-seat Dining Hall is located on the second floor of what used to be Sears. It will feature real dishware and an impressive scullery operation that will send organic waste to La Pêche for processing. Restaurant-wise, new editions include Amaya (Indian from Toronto), Shanghai 360 (Chinese dumplings), Big Smoke Burger (also from Toronto), Place Tevere (Italian), and to watch MLT DWN (original location in Kingston). Almost two year old MLT DWN by Ottawa native Moloo brothers is quite the operation. Their grilled cheese menu comes from first principles (ie. restaurant-style kitchen). They are looking at 18-20 hours of prep to open: chicken from fresh (marinated and grilled), smoked brisket, smoked pulled pork (finished in a North Carolina barbecue sauce), roast beef in a garlic jus, New Brunswick lobster, and slow cooked caramelized onions. [And yes, Ottawas first Purdys Chocolates is located in the Dining Hall]
