We were blessed with SUMANTH our dear son who happened to have down syndrome. He has completed his worldly life and his soul has journeyed onto the world of Gods. We miss him dearly. He is fondly remembered for his love of life and people, his generous smiles, his compassionate heart, his electrifying dancing, singing, his penchant for traveling, dining and sportiness to name a few. Would love to share one of his many talents. He is playing on the TABLA - an Indian percussion instrument often used in the Classical Hindustani Music. A little about TABLA ....Playing this pair of hand drums is a mathematically calculated process. The study of tabla is in the oral tradition and in ancient times, a language was developed using words called BOLS that were descriptive of the sounds that the drum makes. There are about sixteen different sounds or bols, which is remarkable for only two small drums. The words are arranged first in phrases, then sentences, followed by paragraphs, chapters, and then novels. A person who studies tabla has to memorize these words and phrases and they are preserved in notebooks with only the words and no musical notations. In this video Sumanth has memorized these bols or sound words as he skillfully navigates through the melody. Proudly presenting Sumanth Suresh.
