We were recently contacted and asked to supply an Angel Gown garment for a baby Girl named Eloise who had passed away at just 25 Days old. Eloise fell ill and sadly passed away after coming in contact with the common Cold Sore Virus and her family would like us to share their story to hopefully raise awareness and possibly save another babies life. This is their story as posted on https://open.abc.net.au/explore/83994 This healthy baby girl was born on the 1st of November 2014 by emergency c section. Mum and Bub returned home from hospital to begin life as a family of six. Like all new babies, she was showered with gifts and kisses and cuddles by those near and dear to the family. A few days later, the familys life turned upside down. After returning to hospital with some issues with Bub not feeding, they were forced to stay in hospital while she was fed by a drip. The doctors knew there was more to this feeding issue, and baby Eloise was airlifted to Brisbane. She was put on a machine that would give her heart a rest and pump the blood around her body for her. This gave the doctors a chance to diagnose that it was herpes simplex virus that was making Eloise so sick. Her parents were told that they were in this situation because their baby came into contact with somebody who had a cold sore. After three weeks of being on machines for her heart, lungs that had collapsed, and kidneys that were not functioning, Eloise caught a staph infection in her blood. At three weeks old, Eloise took her last breath on the 25th of November. I am writing this so hopefully people will be more aware of this virus, and think twice before cuddling a newborn if they have a cold sore on their lip. Please pass this vital information onto your family and friends. We all have had that one friend that likes to be a little over protective of their baby and not want to be swamped with a room full of visitors. Instead of thinking they are over reacting, respect their wishes and know they are just trying to protect their little treasure. Cold sores, or herpes simplex virus is deadly! No babys life should ever be cut short. May you fly high little Eloise xxx From everyone at NICU Helping Hands Angel Gown Program we send all of our love and gentle thoughts to the family and friends at this very heart breaking time xxx
