We would like to announce the creation of the Barney Popnoe Memorial Scholarship, created in memory of Mr. Barney Popnoe, an educator, coach and mentor who passed away on November 3, 2013. The $1000.00 scholarship will offer tuition support to applicants graduating from Coleman County High Schools who are pursuing a degree in science. Our goal in establishing the scholarship is to continue Mr. Popnoe’s legacy of learning and higher education .Mr. Popnoe was passionate about learning. After graduating from Novice High School he entered McMurry College at age 15 where he earned his BS degree in biology and history. He continued his graduate science education at Texas Tech and the University of New Mexico. He later received a MS degree in Guidance and Counseling from Howard Payne University, Summa Cum Laude and additional work in advanced science at the University of Texas. We are looking forward to an overwhelming response from former students, colleagues and friends who were impacted by this man of character, as we establish the scholarship fund .
