Webinar: Water-Smart Power - July 18 Register Today For the power sector, summer has come to signify a time of increasing risk. In recent years, as summer heat settles over much of the country, the water demands of the power sector have come into increasing conflict with other water users. U.S. power plants account for more than 40 percent of freshwater withdrawals and a large share of non-agricultural freshwater consumption. As the effects of climate change strain these water supplies, the risks of energy-water "collisions" rises, and raises the question: how do we build a water-smart electricity future? Join us for a webinar discussion on electricity-water challenges and opportunities, as the Energy and Water in a Warming World initiative (EW3) releases its second major report, Water-Smart Power: Strengthening the U.S. Electricity System in a Warming World. Date: Thursday, July 18 Time: 12:30-1:45 p.m. EDT Webinar panelists include: • Dr. Kristen Averyt, director, Western Water Assessment; • Steve Clemmer, director of energy research and analysis, Union of Concerned Scientists; and • Dr. Peter Frumhoff, director of science and policy, Union of Concerned Scientists. Come hear the experts detail the key findings of their comprehensive new research and how they can be used to inform decisions about power plants and electricity supply that will safeguard water resources, reduce power sector carbon emissions, and provide reliable electricity at a reasonable price in a water-constrained future. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation. action.ucsusa.org/site/Survey?SURVEY_ID=21221&ACTION_REQUIRED=URI_ACTION_USER_REQUESTS&autologin=true
