Wednesday, July 3rd inspired by Tahira Snith No Complaints “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13 Lately, my days have been so long! I get up at 4 a.m., get dressed and arrive at the hospital by 5:30 a.m. where I change clothes and setup my OR room, update my assessment on the first case, talk to my certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) and anesthesiologist and update them on any new findings and have the patient on the OR table by 7:30 a.m. Then, the real learning begins, providing great anesthesia while answering a multitude of questions from my preceptor until about 4:30 p.m. I also perform inpatient preoperative assessments and obtain consent for anesthesia-related procedures for my assigned cases for the following day. Then, I call the CRNA and the anesthesiologist that I will be paired with the next day and notify them of my findings and my plans for the anesthesia. I am usually out of the hospital by 7 p.m. While sitting is traffic the next two hours, I listen to previously recorded lectures during my drive home. At home around 9 p.m., studying begin and I write-up the plans for my patients and review the types of surgeries that they will have. Afterwards, I try to review my lecture material for upcoming exams. If lucky, I am in bed by 12:30 a.m. only to wake up at 4 a.m. Lord, I am tired! It is so hard to get up in the morning. Often times, my mind springs toward the weekend, when I can sleep in, and have all day to study. Who knew that going into a nurse anesthesia program would be this difficult? I knew it was going to be hard, but this is beyond my wildest dreams! Prayer: Lord, I am not complaining, I thank you for this opportunity. I thank you for bringing me this far, getting me out of bed every day, and bringing me one step closer to fulfilling my goals. Thank you. Amen.
