Week 29: Composition – Fill The Frame BUZZZZZZ - a full frame of bees (literally) Canon 70D, 50mm macro, ISO 640, F11, 1/200sec For this weeks challenge i wanted to do something that was typically me. I research honeybees at a University, so my speciality is to get up close and personal with them. In this shot my aim was to focus the attention onto the queens abdomen while the workers surrounded her. I considered cropping the bees on the right of the frame but I believe it actually takes away from the image. To take the shot, I rested a bee frame against a wall in the sun. The queen is constantly on the move so a quick shutter speed was essential. I lay on my tummy below the frame on a 45 degree angle and allowed natural light directly onto the bees (which they dislike and makes them move quickly). The lens is approximately 8 inches from the bees. This is by no means an easy shot to take. No stings were received during the taking of this shot. Putting the bees away however is another story ;-)
