Weight training...... Over the last year or so, i have noticed that people are slowly but surely getting to grips with the benefits of weight training. Im finding that people in general are a little more clued up when it comes to why weight training should be an integral part of any program. Im not sure why this is, but its definitively a positive thing to be able to report. I can only assume that the massive social media culture that now exists mean that more and more people have access to information from fitness experts and experienced trainers a like. I also see more and more photos of physiques of body builders, both male and female. Every single one of these photos emphasises the point that weight training builds great physiques. In this short article i want to move away from the aesthetic benefits of weight training and talk about the impressive health benefits of weight training. The demographic that most trainers work with will be weight loss clients, general health and fitness goal orientated clients. The pool of potential clients with those goals, are getting larger and larger. As the obesity crisis increases in size, so does the need for comprehensive training and nutrition programs. So, back to the benefits of weight training. I do want to stress that weight training is only a part of training and is complemented by cardiovascular, core, flexibility etc... Benefits of weight training.... 1) Muscle is a metabolically active tissue. Increasing muscle size and strength will increase the bodies ability to burn calories. 2) Weight training increases bone density. Weight training has been proven to reduce bone injuries and reduce risk of osteoporosis. 3) Weight training increases the athletic ability of anyone. whether this be a beginner or an elite athlete. Weight training will improve their ability to run, jump, swim.... 4) Functional training involving whole body movements can make day to day activities easier to carry out. Something as simple as gardening, house work or shoveling without any pain or discomfort can make a huge difference to peoples lives. 5) Weight training reduces stress and increases the bodies natural fat burning hormones. 6) The American Heart Association (AHA) promote weight training as a way of reducing your risk of heart disease, diabetes and obesity.. Happy lifting....
