Weirdest Greek word I can think of that has even Greeks thinking that its very likely theyve misspelled it: ευυπόληπτος. Its one of the few words that has upsilon twice in a row; it only occurs in compound words where the first word ends in an upsilon (such as ευ for easy to accomplish, good, nice, pleasant) and another word that starts with upsilon follows right after that. Whats so mindbending about it is not only the rarity, but the fact that the two instances of upsilon sound completely different: when a vowel follows right after the combined vowels epsilon-upsilon, that upsilon sounds like the letter vee; whereas upsilon sounds just like ee on its own. The end result is that the two, combined, sound like vee — and the three vowels thus sound like evee — but its confusing to think about when writing...
