Welcome back to math class! Lets estimate that 10% of teachers are queer-identified and 2% are trans-identified, and if 10% of students are queer-identified, and 2% of students are trans-identified, and 10% of students parents(assuming 2 per student- big assumption) are queer-identified, and 2% of parents are trans-identified. Given these conservative statistics, how many people in a class of 25 students with a lead teacher and teachers aide can we expect to feel offended in a deeply personal way by a homophobic or transphobic rule or comment in the classroom tomorrow, given that 96% of students and teachers hear homophobic and transphobic comments in their schools on a regular basis. Show your work and attach to your response- and then do something to change those numbers by helping change your schools policies (get gender neutral potties and sports and PE class) or perhaps sponsor a Gay-Straight Alliance or an LGBT-sensitivity training at your local school--even if you dont know any kids there!
