Well I listened to Senator Rubio the other night and I suspect - TopicsExpress

Well I listened to Senator Rubio the other night and I suspect he is suffering from Polly Anna syndrome. It would be nice if everything worked on the Immigration Bill but it is extremely unlikely. For example, it is estimated that approximately 40% of illegal immigrants took advantage of the 1986 Immigration Act and they did not have to pay a $2,000 fine. Exactly how many does the Senator believe are going to voluntarily come forward and shell out $2,000 to stay here. Most will not be able to afford that. He states that those who come forward will have background checks. Question: What happens to those who have questionable backgrounds or fail the background check? Does he honestly believe that those who have questionable background will voluntarily come forward? He readily admits that many of the illegal immigrants have disappeared and they have no idea where they are at. Those immigrants know that and they are not going to risk it all by coming forward. The question not asked was, “What happens to all those who don’t jump at this wonderful opportunity?” What the bill needs is a fast track deportation process for illegal immigrants. The current deportation process is slowed because of legal and/or financial reasons thus resulting in many remaining in jails for extended periods of time at taxpayer expense. And the final dream deals with securing our borders. He acknowledges that for the bill to work we must have a secure border and to achieve that the funds to cover the cost of securing the border will come from the fines the illegal immigrants will have to pay in order to stay in this country. Again, how much does the Senator anticipate will be collected. Remember, only 40% participated in 1986 and it didn’t cost them anything. I would like to know why DHS is not patrolling the border and arresting illegal immigrants? Obviously, Ms. Napolitano does not believe in arresting illegal immigrants. She prefers to pick and choose the laws she is sworn to enforce as demonstrated in her memorandum of “deferred action” of illegal immigrants. I submit that if she does not go after the illegal immigrants now she won’t go after them later either. And as final point. The Senator states that the illegal immigrants come to America searching for work. He goes on and points out that those companies that hire them will face stiff fines when discovered. Those companies already pay fines which they take from petty cash. What will discourage companies seeking to exploit the illegal immigrants is when the Personnel Managers and CEO’s are SENT TO JAIL for 6 months to a year. Suddenly, it becomes personal and that will curtail the practice of exploiting the illegals. This bill is not going to solve the problems of illegal immigration. What is needed is first a secure border; second, a fast track process for deportation and then for the laws to be enforced by DHS. Do that and I will support an immigration bill.
