Well, I think this is a good episode that I could write here. While being a student at Thiru:puram I had the privilege of listening to the English lessons of Prof MRK Menon who had been a professor at MG College Thiru:puram and later an Indian High Commission Staffer at London under our great VK Krishna Menon. Having had been in England for quite some days, Prof Menon had so much experience about British people and he used to tell us so many things about them. One of such incidents was a beautiful episode involving Winston Churchill and his son. Churchill was Prime Minister when this episode happened. His son Churchill Junior was caught by a Traffic Policeman (British People call Policemen as Bluebottle) for an act of Traffic Rule Violation. Junior Churchill stopped his car. The Policeman was about to note down his car number and other details when Junior told him that he was son of Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister. The Policeman became a little upset and therefore he wanted to seek advice from his Inspector as to what he should with this violator. Unfortunately, the Inspector was also in the same dilemma when the matter was reported to him. So he spoke to the Police Commissioner of London Metro and most unfortunately that gentleman also found himself in the same dilemma when the Inspector reported the matter. So he decided to seek advice from none other than the father of the offender-the real Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister. So he called him and sought his his advice. No sooner than he told the matter, out came these words from Mr Churchill. He told the commissioner-If he is the son of Winston Churchill, he must pay the penalty like any ordinary citizen and let him go after that. Winston Churchill has become Prime Minister of England not to support the traffic rule violation of his son. I was having a great deal of aversion towards Winston Churchill for his treatment of Mahatma Gandhi and for calling him a half-naked fakir. But with this incident I started having respect for him. This Churchill had been awarded Nobel Prize for Literature in 1952 or 1953.
