Well, asana practice has been pretty quiet lately. In the heat and intensity of late summer in the city, I usually turn to a quieting practice of long inversions, twists, and forward bends to help counter the street noise so pervasive in this busy life of a yoga teacher. And few poses take me as far in to that sweet silence as Marichyasana 2 (B to the Ashtanga set). Its not very exciting to watch perhaps, but with so many folks in DC practicing Primary these days, I thought it might be helpful to see a few little self-adjusts I give myself along the way to help me find a deep but sustainable seat. With my shorter arms and broad rib cage, these wrapping and binding postures do not come as easily to me, but with patience and a few internal adjusts (like hugging the knees in by lengthening through the outer thigh of the padmasana leg) Im able to re-catch at the wrist after a few breaths and settle in for a nice long stay in the silence.
