Well, it has been a very challenging day - the first day of our driving trip. On the way to New Orleans, our first stop, we were involved in an accident in Baton Rogue. One of those areas where all lanes merge together. Got sideswiped on the back left side by an 18-wheeler. We are o.k. - not even a bruise or bump, but the car took a pretty bad hit which included basically shredding the left rear tire. After about 45 minutes assessing the damage and working with the police, no citations were issued for either of the drivers (Tom and a very nice young man from Muscle Shoals, Alabama). We did have a spare (temporary) tire, so it was put on and then we headed to the nearest Honda dealer for a new tire, and a determination if the car was o.k. to drive. Good news was the car was o.k. - the body shop guy popped a couple of pieces back into place and temporarily fixed another area, and told us there was no structural damage. Bad news was that the Honda dealer did not have a rim (which was severely damaged), but told us that the temporary tire would get us to New Orleans where they could probably be able to put a new tire on. Of course, by this time the dealerships in New Orleans had closed, so we have to wait until tomorrow to see how soon we can get the new tire/rim. Still hope to stay on schedule for our trip. On a positive note, we had a great late dinner at a restaurant not far from the hotel, and are finally settled in for the night..
