Well, mom is still proving people wrong. They told me Monday that it was highly likely that she would be brain dead in hours, due to the injury and swelling in her brain. The ct images show a midline shift and compression of the ventricles of her brain- not good. They told me to call anyone that may want to see her. I did. 48 hours later, shes still not brain dead. They told me that she wouldnt be able to breathe without assistance because her brain stem has been compromised from the swelling. Yesterday, respiratory therapy came to do her assessment. Part of that was a function test in which they turn the ventilator off for 1 minute and see if the patient can breathe. She passed. She, at times, over breathes the ventilator. They told me when they did the second surgery that if she made it through the anesthesia, she may bleed to death with the surgery. They had to remove most of the scull on the right side but guess what? When they removed the clot and sealed the two places still bleeding, she was dry. They told me that she had a weak heart and had had a heart attack. Cardiology has followed, tested and followed again. They run labs frequently and guess what? She DID NOT have a heart attack and they have said so far, her heart looks great and the stints are doing their job. I say all of that to say this: Yesterday morning, they came in and told me again that she could be gone in hours. I said, Youve been wrong before. I hold no crazy hopes, at least I dont think Im being unreasonable. If her brain continues to work and that was what they said would fail, WHY would they expect me to give up on her? I have told them to continue treating her like someone they expected to survive and not like they are waiting on her to die. Everyone dies one day but she had proven to them that the past few days werent her day. Please, keep the prayers coming. This is a most difficult position to be in...
