But this woman will tell you that her journey to super stardom, hasn’t been smooth sailing. That’s because secretly she was dealing with eating disorders, depression and self-harm. Subject’s that no person should ever have to experience. This woman was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 20th 1992, and was raised in Dallas, Texas. She grew up in a happy household along with her sister and step-sister. Her big break came when she was only seven years old. That’s when she began her acting career and she landed a role on the childrens television series Barney & Friends as Angela. That led to even bigger acting roles when she stared in the Camp Rock and Sonny with a Chance series’. This woman was becoming one of the most talented actresses in the world and you would think being a young teenager with a hot acting career, would make any young person happy. But this woman say’s that she was not happy, in fact she say’s that she was miserable. This woman recently revealed that secretly she was living in a world of hell and she says her problems began when she was in the seventh grade and was being bullied by other kid’s. She stated in an interview with 20/20 in 2011 that she had had a really unhealthy relationship with food since age 8 due to bullying experienced as a child. She says: They told me I was fat and ugly. I shouldnt have listened, but I took it to heart and it hurt. I thought maybe I didnt have friends because I was too fat, she remembers. So she starved herself, and anything she did eat, she threw up again. Within six months she had lost over 88 lbs unhealthy for her 5 ft 2in height. She adds: Id make myself sick up to six times a day, My Mom was worried.” This woman hid her pain from her parent’s and to cope with her pain she started cutting her wrists. This singer goes on to say: “There were times I felt so anxious, almost like I was crawling out of my skin, that if I didnt do something physical to match the way I felt inside, I would explode. I cut myself to take my mind off that. I just didnt care what happened. I had no fear.” In 2007 she started her singing career. During this time she was still dealing with her eating disorder and self cutting. She would perform shows on an empty stomach. This singer say’s her problems we’re getting worse and not better. Trying to hide her problems and pain was not working. She says: “I just had so much going on in my head. I ended up doing things that I regret to this day. I was cranky. I was irritable. I was not pleasant really to work with. I never became suicidal, but I was in some really, really dark times though.” In 2007 she attacked one of her back-up dancers on a plane for no apparent reason; she realized hers was a problem that required professional help. So she quit acting and checked herself into rehab to get help for her eating disorder and depression. It was while in rehab that Doctor’s diagnosed her as being Bipolar. This woman say’s that it all made sense to her. Discovering she had a “real emotional disorder” was a huge help in putting together the puzzle pieces of her recovery. Today, although she still deal’s with the urges to not eat and to harm herself she is on the way to recovery. She meditates daily. She also has the support of her family and friends who are there to help her with her struggles. She also says she’s happy about her decision to go public with her eating disorder to counter society’s harmful silence on the dangers of being “stick-figure thin.” She say’s: “I want girls to know that its OK when they grow up and their body changes. I want them to be aware that certain things they might do to lose weight can be dangerous, life-threatening, even.” Well this woman’s life has definitely changed since entering rehab seven years ago. Not only is she much healthier and on the way to recovery, but she has become a hot singing star with one of the hottest career’s in Hollywood! This artist was lucky enough to find her rainbow at the end of the rain storm.
