Well said From Bartold Biomechanics: Craig Payne has copped a bit of a pasting over at Running Research Junkie for his comments regarding Dennis Kimetto heel striking his way to a new marathon world record. The video everyone is talking about is the one below.. a jerky sample shot at 25 frames per second at best. At this speed, multiple frames are completely absent, so it is possible only to guess what is happening. However.. the midfoot/forefoot only brigade are frothing at the mouth as usual, and one contributor asserts Kimetto has Perfect form, and that is why he broke the record. This demonstartes a miniscule understanding of the effect of gait patterns and musculoskeletal biomechanics on an athletes ability to win or lose.. or break records. Form is technique.. and I am so bloody sick of hearing people give it a new name and then say an athlete has perfect form.. or, even worse.. perfect biomechanics! What a load of balony! And why are we STILL having this tedious argument about which footstrike pattern is best when the answer is obvious.. NONE is best. Best is what works best for the athlete on the day.
