Well said, So, a blacked-out photo. Why? Because the Taiwanese police force have decided, probably under orders of the KMT, to use excessive force in order to break up what was previously an entirely peaceful protest. It seems that in the eyes of President Ma (who even before this had a mere 9% approval rating) that lining your pockets and selling your country out to its authoritarian neighbour is acceptable but peacefully requesting that your government follow the democratic process is not. Its disgusting. The black photo is to express my solidarity with the people of Taiwan. A token gesture at best but its something. Id go and join the protests myself but under the terms of my visa I would likely find myself ejected from the country. (Also a musician I know, Hsin-Kai, the bassist from awesome Taipei band vuLner, was rendered unconscious and hospitalised by the riot police. Hes recovered consciousness now but is still seriously injured. Quiet artists and students, such a threat to the country...)
