Well, thats a load off my mind. And pocketbook. One of the downsides of moving so rapidly to Seattle to take the Paizo job was that I had a house in Oklahoma that I was still paying a mortgage on. That came to a good deal more than $1,000 a month I was spending on an empty building. The house was perfect when we were taking care of another member of the family for a few years, and it was a nice space for gaming and having guests in from out of town, but it was more space than we really needed by the time we left. It was definitely more space that we wanted to pay to have sitting empty 2,000 miles away. So we priced it to sell. But problems arose. It was a quirky house, with two front doors. It has a mother-in-law plan, but was zoned single family. Things that were never disclosed to us when we bought it were discovered, and we disclosed them to all our potential buyers. A mysterious stucco fairy came and did work to our chimney we neither asked for nor wanted. And we were trying to deal with all of these things while working more-than-full time and finding our bearings in a new city, and while thousands of miles away. For a long time it looked like we’d just be paying that mortgage for months or years, and slowly making upgrades to the house so eventually it would sell. We’ve had the house under contract multiple times. The deals kept falling through. So the fact that it’s been under contract for weeks, requiring regular trips to offices and banks to have things signed, notarized, appraised, notated, extended, expanded, and wired became more a litany of requirements than action with a goal. We had given up pinning our hopes on any one deal going through. So even today, when there was just ONE last thing we had to do, I mostly did it because it was next on the list. I assumed another thing would come up tomorrow, or next week, or this deal would fall through as well and we’d have to start all over. Even though I was spending money to get rid of something, for the third of fourth time in the past 6 weeks, I didn’t really expect it to work this time, either. But, this time, it did. This time the dots hit all the “i’s” and the crosses bullseyed all the “t’s,” and it got done. Finished. I am an ex-property owner, my residency in OK of interest only to historians. Phew. Now, on to the next major issues…
