Well...today was the last day in my career as a geologist. It lasted over 40 years, and today it came to an end. Next week, I wont be going into to work anymore, and it wont be because I am on vacation. I am officially retired!!!! I am not sure yet when it will hit home...when the realization that I am beginning the next phase of my life will seep into my everyday consciousness. Today was actually a rough day. I had put off and put off the necessary work of cleaning up the huge collection of stuff that had accumulated in my office over the years. Most of my books I left for anyone who wants them to take them. But I had a large rock collection right there in my office. I packed up my prized rocks and left the rest. Its tough toting a box of rocks...heavy rocks, dense and hard, but beautiful. But itss finally done. I turned in my checkout sheet and left my office for the last time...HOORAY!!! HOORAY!!!
