Were often asked the question How many galaxies ARE there in the universe? Lets see, shall we? The Hubble Extreme Deep Field (XDF; see article below) helps give us an idea-- the Hubble XDF has about 5,500 galaxies in it. And this is only in a very, VERY tiny part of the sky (1/32-millionth of the sky, to be more exact)! If you extrapolate these results to cover the entire sky, we count over 176 billion galaxies in the entire Universe. And thats the minimum estimate! Check out the article below for details.
