Western Sahara Western Sahara 3, 3 or Ocidental3 Sahara Western Sahara [citation needed] is a territory in North Africa, bordered by Morocco to the north, east by Algeria, east and south by Mauritania and west by the Atlantic Ocean, where maritime borders with the Spanish autonomous region of the Canaries. The capital is El Aaiun. The Western Sahara is on the UN list of non-autonomous territories since the 1960s. The control of the territory is contested by Morocco and the Polisario Front independence movement
