Weve been asked how RUbel Mina and Khurshida Begum met. Heres the story: Bob, Kushi, RaSun, and I travelled to Bangladesh in 2008 so we could see where Kush was born, etc. There we were staying at our friend Alis home. I needed to use a computer, so Alis wife had Rubel help me in their newspaper office (where Rubel worked.) Bob and I were very taken with Rubel (I loved his smile and gentle ways, and Bob wished Kushi could meet someone like him.) I told Kush that night that she HAD to meet this wonderful person who had just helped me with the computer. Lo and behold, the next day we were treated to an all-day trip to the Sunderbans (Bangladesh mangroves) and Kush and Rubel and RaSun travelled in the same car. Whenever we were all together that day, I was impressed with Rubels manners and fun sense of humor with a paper doll I had brought to Bangladesh for a first grader at Wishkah School (Flat Samantha.) We returned home to America, and after a while Kush and Rubel started an electronic friendship via phone, email, Skype, and texting. Four years later on December 24, 2012, they were married in Bangladesh in a beautiful traditional Bengali ceremony that Bob, RaSun, and I were fortunate to attend. After MANY forms and papers, two years later Rubel was granted his visa to live in America when he had an interview at the America Embassy in Dhaka on December 30. His interviewer especially liked the photo book I had made for Kush and Rubel which included photos of Flat Samantha and a sign Rubel had made for us that included a Patriots symbol for RaSun. The interviewer was a Patriots fan! So...thats the love story of Khurshida and Rubel. Bob and I like to say its an arranged marriage, as we met Rubel first and DEFINITELY approved of him. Were lucky hes now in our family! :-)
