We’ve been a little quiet on the FaceBook front, but with good reason. We’ve been incredibly busy in the Cafés and within the catering arm of the business, but we have some news for you. It is with much sadness that we must announce the closure of our Altona North Café. As of the end of this month (July), the UCAN café at Altona north Library (Cnr McArthurs Rd and Millers Rd) will close its doors after over two years of trade. The café that occupied the space within the walls of the Altona North Library was the birthplace of the UCAN name, and its philosophy. There have been many a barista, kitchen hand and service staff that has passed through those doors, and trained within that kitchen. The staff that remain at the café until its final day will have opportunities to continue employment at our other site (at the newly refurbished Williamstown Library, 104 Ferguson St, Williamstown), within Yooralla, or within our Catering Kitchen. Which brings me to some exciting news! Recently our catering business moved out of our Windsor location to set up a temporary base at Altona North, and we are ecstatic to announce the opening of a brand new, purpose-built kitchen in Footscray. The exact date of the opening is yet to be finalised, however, the contractors and UCAN management are very close to securing the date. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every person that walked through our doors at UCAN Altona North. Whether they be staff - both past and present, customers – regulars or one-off visitors, Library staff and Yooralla staff and their supporters. But we’d like to especially mention Friends and Family who have supported us all with their time and love. As mentioned above, this is not the closure of UCAN, if anything, this change signifies the growth of the business and we are very much looking forward to see what the future has to hold for us. We’re still most definitely in operation at Williamstown – at the rear of the Williamstown Library (104 Ferguson St, Williamstown), and will shortly be up and running at our brand new (so new that it’s still being built!) catering kitchen in Footscray.
