What Am I? I am something that many of us are fortunate enough to be blessed with possessing, yet we frequently complain about having. I can be a source of great frustration and self-doubt; yet I can be an invaluable solace during episodes of personal sadness and disappointment in your life. I can be very rewarding, mentally, physically as well as financially, in some instances; on other endeavors, I can leave you penniless, destitute and even hopeless. I can become all consuming, replacing your family, your friends, your spirituality, even your basic personality, all in an effort to prove your worth. I can be an annoyance that you would rather forget, given lowest priority and even hated by some. I can be absent, completed, or taken away; some of you long for the time that I am no longer your constant responsibility; but then feel somewhat lost, bored and occasionally worthless when I am no longer with you. I can make you feel invincible, likened to an extreme drug-like state of euphoria and egotism; but I can also make you feel less than human, very expendable and easily replaced. I am something that some individuals ruthlessly pursue, then arrogantly boast of my acquisition; I can make others feel defenseless and small, unable to break free of my stronghold. I can be your primary social outlet; I can also be your excuse for seclusion and social isolation. I can assist in the formation of life-long friends and confidants; however I can also perpetuate spiteful, horrendous enemies just by my sheer nature. I am basically a necessity; but you could lead an otherwise active and productive life without me if you really tried, however it would not be easy . . . What Am I?
