What a night it was, the course check on Friday was on firm and well packed roads with only a few puddles here and there, but come Saturday afternoon the heavens opened up and the rain quickly turned the forests south of Rushworth into a very damp and muddy affair. The directing team would sincerely like to thank everyone that ventured out on Saturday night. To the competitors that heeded my advice in the briefing to bring their cars home in one piece, job well done. Of the 37 starters we only had 5 DNFs, and everyone made it back to the finish under their own steam. The recovery car was the only disappointed crew as they had nothing to do all night !!To the small army of volunteer officials that did a simply amazing job, not only to stand out in a cold and damp forest for half the night, but to actually reach their allocated positions in mostly 2WD road cars, a standing ovation ! We cant thank you enough, for without your help and support these events would not run at all. There were a few things I could have done better in the organisation and placement of you all, but I have learned alot and hope to improve the system for future events. To our course car crews that kept everyone safe and on track, our CAMS Stewards, our every smiling CRO, our FIV crew from WAP Safety, the Rushworth Football Club, the Department of Environment and Primary Industry, local shires and police, thank you.
