What an amazing day! I joined Mrs. Paige Mechams Philosophy Intensive(description below) to Arizona State University today to visit with Mrs. Mechams former philosophy teacher, Dr. Watson and his colleagues. We were in for a spectacular day of philosophical thinking as we were introduced to the concepts of Skepticism, Paradoxes, Epistemology, Bio-ethics, Moral Theories and Philosophy of Mind. I was impressed by the high level of student engagement as they wrestled with such challenging and complex concepts such as Naturalistic Fallacy and Deontological Ethics. Thank you Dr. Watson, Dr. Sandra Woien, Dr. Bernard Kobes, and graduate students, Mark Eberle and Adam Betts for inspiring our students to think deeply about themselves and their world. Everything You’ve Ever Been Told is a Lie: Really!? Teacher: Paige Mecham Throughout this intensive we will be exploring our life philosophies. Asking questions about our world and our lives such as: Why are we here? What is the purpose of our existence? How do you know what you know? Why do we live the way we do? Are you really free to live how you choose? Is lying always wrong? Why does our culture believe it is okay to go to war but not okay to murder people? Can murder be moral? We will be exploring questions like these through film, music, art, reading, writing and fieldwork in our community. This course in Philosophy will lead us to talk to expert speakers, to discuss our lives and the world around us, different philosophical perspectives and cultural relativism, how classic philosophers have influenced the way live today, and much more. Join this intensive to develop a personal philosophy and develop skills to critique other’s philosophies in order to strive to find the truth.
