What does it feel like to be a veteran? My wife told me today that she thinks vets come in two very different molds. One is very outspoken about their service, the other is very reserved about their service. She asked me why Im so private about my service. Hard question! I think I feel similar to many others who have served in some time period or job that never was deployed during a time of conflict. Its not regret, not embarrassment, or anything like that. Its more a reverence for for how small choices affect your life and a respect for those whose decisions brought them into direct deployment and harms way. Im proud that I used to wear a uniform and had to lace up boots, spit-shined for my Drill Sergeant s sake, and did my service time. But Im even MORE proud of the friends and family members whove served during times of war. Thank you to all who have served, during peacetime, wartime, stateside, overseas, front lines and desk bound. God bless you all!
