What we perceive as time, is a linear sequential progression of conscious moments; therefor it is simply a relative construct of the human mind. Our brain is capable of organizing all aspects of every cognitive moment into individual schemata or categories of cognition. It is the schemata that we use to make decisions, or to respond to situations or sets of stimuli; it is the driving force of our actions, through the manifestation of feelings. We do things to make us happy or feel good, but because time is a relative construct, there never seems to be enough. The same applies to doing things we don’t like; they seem to carry on for a greater duration. So, we fall into a semi-conscious struggle between chasing after the good feelings and avoiding the bad ones; this becomes our life, a series of choices guided by these feelings. Do we accept the risk of failing or getting hurt, while continuously trying to achieve something better? Or, do we settle for the security of being content, while wondering what could have been? Do we allow ourselves to fall in love again, knowing what heartbreak feels like? Or, do we get back on the bike, after we just fell off? Every choice has a consequence. We cannot reasonably deny that we are exactly where we want to be in life, because of the aggregate of every choice we have made thus far. However, this also means from this moment forward, we can consciously create any future that we can imaginatively foresee.
