Whats on my mind... Hmmm ... After 35 years of Emergency Nursing and all the changes in healthcare ( I remember smoking my cigarettes listening to a tape recorded report... And having to request a nonsmoking room)... Being a Flight Nurse in the days of MAST trousers and Dixie County being still BLS and we (as the flight crew) were the first ALS responders... I have come FULL circle.. Why do we celebrate life... The newborn is a gift from God... We celebrate, showers, presents etc... But what happens at the end of life?? Why dont we celebrate? Unfortunately, we are about to loose the last working generation.. The ones that fought for our freedom, those that worked 16 hours a day to provide for families. The days of leaving the car keys in the car. Leaving our doors unlocked. The days where drinking from a water hose was ok. When being sent to the principles was pure terror. We, our fabulous country, has lost sight of what our forefathers had planned for this beautiful country. I am now a hospice nurse! No more herding cattle to make the 90 minute turn around... No more hurry up get them out for the next patient., I now get to be a nurse... I am allowed to be with patients and their families in their most difficult time. We need to celebrate life and their contribution, let them know their life mattered. I have the privilege to be a part of that.... Life has a meaning now... So so happy!
