When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers and sisters - TopicsExpress

When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers and sisters encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. When he arrived, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed. (Acts 18:27a) This story in Acts 18 became a prayer for me this morning. We have struggled with finding young pastoral leadership for mission to youth in our neighborhood and church. When I read this passage, my response was: “I need an Apollos, Lord.” Sometimes we raise up leaders from within but at other times God sends us, sent ones. I also know this could be a woman too, but that’s not the point of this post. So here’s the verse parsed out into prayer. Acts 18:24-28 Lord give us an Apollos. A man. A learned man. A man with a thorough knowledge of scripture. A man instructed in the way of The Lord. A man who speaks with great fervor. A man who has been taught about Jesus accurately. A bold speaker. A man willing to learn more. A man who is willing to relocate. A man who will be a great help to us. A man who will vigorously refute and debate error. A man who can prove from the scriptures who Jesus truly is.
