When I create filing systems for people, I keep self purging systems in mind at all times. When you create a file with simply the company or vendor name, or type of file, there is not much of a prompt to ever purge papers. I break down those files by year. Then, straightforward papers (probably the bulk of your papers) can be destroyed or trashed when they pass a certain determined date. (7 years, for example.) It creates flow and doesnt require hemming and hawwing and lots of decision making. Its easy!
