When I was 29, I worked at Polygram records in Toronto. Mostly the mailroom - sending out Phantom of the Opera calendars. Everyone there was a music lover, so it wasnt long before they started asking my opinion on things. It was a cool environment. I stayed for three months. When Nirvana hit, the office went ballistic. Work loads increased and excitement filled the air. It was heavy. Suddenly, everything was called into question. The dialogue of a new generation was being called upon. Fashion changed. Politics changed. Music changed. Gone were the hair bands. People became engaged again. Many people my age didnt grok Nirvana. It was a cut off point. Many of us stopped looking forward, opting for the groove of what is now classic rock. But Kurt Cobain was a great songwriter and singer. Beatle-esque at times. Its a sad story - but an important one. Tonight CAL performs Nirvanas Nevermind at the Hard Rock Live in Orlando. Nicky has been soaking in this album and has honed the musicians into a tight, chip on the shoulder band. Our outro set - our second set - is going to be historic. There is a deep well to draw brilliance from. Let me know what you thought of the show. I think its time for CAL to move forward with Nirvana and take it on with a seriousness that we can only provide through hard work. hardrock/live/locations/orlando/
