When I was about 7 or 8, I was a junior pantherette! My mentor was Eugene Stephens and he instructed me to learn five new words everyday, and to arm myself with intelligence. I will never forget my first five new words: acquiesce, berate, circumvent, detour and empathy. I fell in love with words and the power they held--philo-sophy: the love of knowledge. I have carried that lesson and love with me my entire life.
