When I was so young. I volunteered at K-wing...Sunnybrook. Ward for Veterans of our country. My goal was to get a good reference and experience to get into nursing school. I was genuine and truely cared....but was so naive as to whom I was walking amongst. To those I cared for, I am so sorry for my ignorance and how long it took me to value those I took care of. My uncle Jack...memories was watching hockey night in Canada. Totally void of the understanding that he had battled Normandy and Gold Beach. Have since been to Gold....and paid my respect. Probably....most dear to my heart...my grandfather. I never understood that my Grandpop had lost his dad at age 14 to WW1 and what it meant. Until I took my family to his fathers gravesite in Belgium, in 2005. My great-grandfather...my kids great-great grandfather. My historical family as many others...gave to our freedom. My kids understand the meaning at a much younger age. I needed to share. I learnt too late in life what it actually means to live freely like we do. Tomorrow is a very special day.
