When I was wandering around Oxford today, I saw a small group of down syndrome people dancing to raise awareness and money. The only thing was, they were wearing tight glittery dresses (the guys too), with hot pink feather boas, and doing erotic dancing to Lady Marmalade. To my left there was an older downs guy, he was humping the floor and slapping his back side, and to my right was a larger downs woman gyrating against a pillar and stroking her body. Now Im not saying that people with down syndrome cant do this kind of thing, of course they can! But what made it ok for them to do it? Because Im sure if I was in their position it wouldnt be long before I was told to stop it. People were smiling and thought it was cute, but part of me felt sorry for them and thought it was cruel - what do you think?
